UK Petite Fashion Makeover: Trinny picked my smalls
I’ve always struggled with my size. I know I’m in proportion but at under five foot and with size 2 feet, shopping is a nightmare. Trinny and Susannah are the shopping experts though so I knew they’d have advice on stores that stock smaller clothes and accessories. Nerves almost got the better of me on the way to the shoot but everyone was so friendly and laidback that I relaxed as soon as I arrived. Trinny told me I’m the same shape as her, although more petite, so she instinctively knew what would suit me. Apparently, I should stick to tailored clothes, particularly wide-fitting trousers, and experiment more with current trends. Trinny was a revelation. I thought she would be a bit of a diva but she concentrated so hard on helping me and was lovely all day. Her choices surprised me too. When she suggested leggings, I was worried but they looked great and so fashionable. I’d also thought the blue smock would look old-fashioned but it really suited me and teaming it with the black heels made me look so much taller. Blue is quite a sedate colour for me – I usually wear browns and autumnal colours – but this dress is now a favourite. It’s perfect for both daytime and evening. I used to wear jeans all the time as it’s easier finding tops to go with them but now I’ll be on the lookout for dresses to wear with my leggings. I won’t be so scared to move with trends either. Trinny said I shouldn’t follow every fashion but pick ones that suit my shape and experiment with them. All in all, I had a fantastic day. I came down to London with no expectations but came away with some honest advice from the friendliest woman I’ve met. We asked The Sun's Fashion Editor Erica Davies for her pick of the best stores for petite women. Here are her favourites: Wallis stock basics as well as some more fashion ranges Principles is great for classic tailoring as well as a few more fashion focused ranges Next is good for basics and office wear Topshop and Miss Selfridge go down to a size 6 On the web, try Reet Petite and Petite Affair Shoes are a bit of a struggle but try New Look - they stock size 2 - and Small Shoe Co.
