Petite Sophisticate returns to Michigan

Charming Shoppes' stores are filling a fashion void left by the closing of the Casual Corner stores.

By assuming store leases for several Casual Corner stores, the company was able to quickly open about 75 Lane Bryant Outlet stores nationwide, said Gayle Coolick, a spokesperson.

Earlier this year, the company also bought the Petite Sophisticate trade name, which set the stage for today's opening of about 45 stores nationwide, many of them adjacent to the Lane Bryant Outlet stores, she said.

About eight to 10 employees, including some former staff members, have been hired to run the 2,300-square-foot Birch Run Petite Sophisticate store, Coolick said. Targeting women under 5-feet tall wearing sizes O to 14, the store will have more casual clothing than career wear compared to its predecessor, Coolick said.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening sale is planned Oct. 6.
