Tips for Petite Women
Women can make a multitude of mistakes when they'fre shopping, said Ellen York, image consultant. Below are some of her tips:
-To hide generous hips, wear a jacket that falls below the hips. An A-line skirt can also hide larger hips and thighs.
-Pinstripes can make petites look taller and thinner.
-Don't wear a 'little-itty-bitty jacket, or you'll look dorky,' York said.
-Avoid ordering out of a catalog, where you can't try on clothes first.
-Look edgy and savvy but not too much. Be fussy about what you find in the juniors department. 'I don'ft think there is anything worse than a 49-year-old woman trying to look 19 again,' York said. 'There are ways to look edgy without going to the junior department. The edge might be found in a little beading on the neck, or a crew neck or a simple neckline, with a ruffle that goes down the front center.
-To minimize a larger stomach, don'ft tuck your shirt in.
-If you're overweight, be cautious of wearing overly tight pants and a cropped shirt, which could accentuate problem areas. However, losoe-fitting clothes can fit like a tent, so don't go too baggy, either. The best rule of thumb is to be comfortable.
