Default What's your worst petite clothing experience?

My worst clothing nightmare came true one time when I was visiting relatives in a small town, the airline lost my luggage, and of course there were no clothes that fit in the local shops so I had to either wear the one outfit I wore on the plane, or my relatives' clothes that did not fit AT ALL. This year I'm squeezing a change of clothes into my carry-on luggage!

I'm not particularly petite in the traditional sense (5.4) but I'm very small framed with an extremely large breast section. The problem I run into all of the time is that I can rarely find dresses or one piece outfits that fit. If they are conforming to the rest of my body then the top won't fit. But my sister on the other hand is very small, she's only 4, 11 if she wears a very thick heel. She runs into this problem all of the time.

A couple of years ago she was in a store looking for a dress for her anniversary dinner out with her husband and she couldn't find a dress that was in her size. She finally got frustrated and asked the store attendant to help her. When she explained the problem instead of being "helpful" the lady says rather loudly to her, "Maybe you should try over at Gapkids, they have a nice Easter section." My sister was so embarrassed she just left the store.

Wow. I'll admit I've shopped at GapKids, but 1) I'm smaller then your sister and 2) they do not always have something "grown-up" enough to wear ... especially around Easter when everything is flowers and bunnies. That saleslady was very rude.

I was at BCBG recently, and nothing fit properly. Mind you, none of the clothes were technically petite, but still, they're known for clothes that fit a smaller frame!

They don't have a huge selection here in Reno that's for sure. You would think since it's the hub for the west coast for shipping that they would keep some stuff here to sell. But they don't. There are a lot of petite ppl in this town too. She usually goes to Vegas or SF to do a lot of her clothes shopping.

This summer I went to Washington D.C. to see my uncle's family, and my twin seven year-old cousins who I haven't seen in a couple of years. The girl asked me "Are you a little person?" (not technically, but good for you for using the correct terminology!) and then the boy asked me "Do you shop at the little girl's store?" *facepalm*

A couple of weeks ago I visited local shoe store to try on a new pair of El Naturalista boots... 'Surprisingly' the salesperson supposed me to be much younger than I really am. Because the smallest boots didn't fit, she started to tell me, how my feet will grow by the time, 'don't worry', she said. I was quite astonished, when she kept going that 'you can use the partial payment option if you don't have enough money'! So first she treated me like a teenager, then called me 'poor'. I wonder why I didn't have guts to say 'I'll be soon 30, and I never try on shoes I can't afford to.' I'm not sure, if this was the worst petite clothing experience I've had, but at least it's the latest.

prom!!! ahhh...for my junior prom, i didnt want to go dressed like a 7 year old in a communion dress! and nothing in the stores fit me, so i decided to try online and found a cute vintage shop that sold clothing that were sized smaller than normal...

the dress came in the mail and it was gorgeous...too bad it was still too big! we got a seamstress to fix it up as much as possible, so the length was right but the bodice was a horrible mess. =[

Hope you didn't suffer any "wardrobe malfunctions" from the messed-up bodice!
