I would have wanted to punch the saleslady, too!
I'm not sure what my worst petite clothing experience is, but one time when looking for dressy shoes for my brother's wedding, the saleslady brought me patent leather Mary Janes (a la Stride Rite-style). At the time I was a senior in high school, and after I explained how old I was, another (salesdude) said, "Oh, wait a minute--I think we have something that's more up your alley". He actually brought out a pair of size 4 black suede Sam & Libby pumps. They were adorable and fit like a dream! I wish I still had them. Funny because I currently own a pair of patent leather MJs from Payless, but they are cute and contemporary, not babyish. |

BCBG really doesn't run that small. I bought a size 0 skirt from them recently and it was too big! I have a 24" waist and 35" hip.

Totally agree on this one. Last time I was in BCBG I tried on a few things and everything was too big, and not quite worth it me to alter. When I came out of the fitting room, a fellow petite sales associate said to me, "Too big right? I can't shop here either."

The hardest things to shop for are bras and shoes, because these are the things you really cannot alter! Clothes, I can manage with as i do a bit of sewing myself and have THE BEST seamstress for more difficult alterations, even if it does make everything twice as expensive.
I have given up trying to find a bra that fits me - cup sizes are fine but nobody carries anything smaller than a 10 in the back- I'm a 6 (thats 28 in UK/US sizing). I can't count the number of times I have gone into a shop for a bra fitting (even boutiques that advertise they carry 'difficult to find sizes') - and walked out empty handed. what frustrates me is when the sales ladies grabs all the smallest stock and insist I try it on, despite the fact I know it will not fit just by looking at the label! But they of course know better then me. So it always ends up being a humiliating parade of feeling completely abnormal and listening to comments like "oooh, you are tiny!", "I didn't realise you were so small" or "why don't you try the childrens section"... |

Ok, the first two are companies that carry standard but small sizes, the second two promise custom made bras:
The Little Bra Company [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] Lula Lu Petite Lingerie [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] Snares of Venus [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] Enell Sports Bras [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] I'll add more as I find them... lot of shady-looking bra resellers out there. |

Oh, what a horrible salesperson!
I've had salespeople suggest children's clothes to me on many occasions and I always tell them that children do not have hips and breasts thus their clothing is unsuitable. I've also had salespeople be rude to me because I'm small. They seem to think it's ok to make fun of a short and/or slim person in a way that no-one would dare do to a tall and/or obese person. I think we need to learn how to turn these comments back on the person saying them so that they feel mortified for being so rude. There is nothing wrong with any person of any height or weight wanting to buy a nice outfit that fits well and looks good on them. |
