I would have wanted to punch the saleslady, too!
I'm not sure what my worst petite clothing experience is, but one time when looking for dressy shoes for my brother's wedding, the saleslady brought me patent leather Mary Janes (a la Stride Rite-style). At the time I was a senior in high school, and after I explained how old I was, another (salesdude) said, "Oh, wait a minute--I think we have something that's more up your alley". He actually brought out a pair of size 4 black suede Sam & Libby pumps. They were adorable and fit like a dream! I wish I still had them. Funny because I currently own a pair of patent leather MJs from Payless, but they are cute and contemporary, not babyish.
